Auction of PromisesAuction of Promises Charity Event Resounding Success!

Over 80 people enjoyed a fantastic night of entertainment at Dereham Memorial Hall on the evening of Saturday the 8th of June 2013 raising over £1,500 to support two local charities.  Dereham Windmill Trustees and Norfolk Hospice organised the evening of live music, exciting auction prizes (Auction of Promises) and a luxury buffet. Guests enjoyed varied musical entertainment provided by Ash Barton (guitarist/vocalist), The Old Wild Rovers shanty singers and danced with music provided by Roger Stevenson.  Ed Taxil-Webber from T W Gaze Auctioneers, Diss carried out the auction with great humour and results.

This near sell out event was held to raise much needed funds for two well deserving charities:

  • Dereham Windmill trustees who are raising money to build a detached building providing refreshment and toilet facilities. The aim is to allow everyone, including the disabled, young and elderly, to join in with the rest of the community at the newly restored Dereham’s Grade 2 Listed Windmill enjoying the displays, exhibitions and events supplied and organised by local schools and organisations.   The Windmill is due to open to the public on Saturday 7th September 2013.
  • The Norfolk Hospice cares for more than 300 people every month, helping them to live life to the full through high quality day therapy at the Hospice or in their own homes with their families, providing specialist end of life care and support. It costs 1.8 million pounds to run the Hospice with less than 13% of this from the NHS. The Norfolk Hospice is also hoping to raise funds to recruit more staff into the newly formed West Norfolk Hospice at Home that is providing care for people who wish to be cared for at home at the end of life.

Both charities would like to thank all who supported them, by attending the event, bidding and by pledging ‘Promises’.  Organisations/Companies/Individuals  contributing included Theatre Royal, Sandringham House, Bartram Mowers, Trailfinders, Dunston Hall, Cameron Reid, Café Verde, Strikes, Mrs Shirley Mayer, Emily O’Brien, Carrol Parfitt, John Lewis, Amanda Holden, ITV Britains Got Talent, House of Fraser, Mr Holbeache-Smith, Aristocrats, Sprowston Manor, Mr Hugh’s Rapeseed Oil, Yaxham Mill, Cley Windmill, Moss and Leakey, Felbrigg Hall, Haaken Photography, Expressions, Hollywood Cinema, Big Fry, KLFM, Alan Ferguson, George Freeman – MP, The Little Gallery, Mr and Mrs T Warby, Ann Bowyer, Sija Photography, Oxburgh Hall, Dereham Golf Club, Gressenhall Rural Life Museum, Mid Norfolk Railway, Morston Hall, Mrs Sutton, Mr and Mrs C Balls, Norwich City Football Club, Fusion Tanning, Hair and Beauty, Palmers Department Store and Norwich Road Garage.
